According to La Vie du Rail traffic by Thalys between Brussels and Paris has risen by 33% since before the opening of the high-speed line on 14 Dec. 1997, and now amounts to 40% of the market. Some 2.4 million passengers travelled by Thalys In the first six months of 1998, and the total for the year is expected to reach 4.5 million - 50% more than in 1997.
